Hepatitis C Virus Infection in Populations With Liver‐Related Diseases in the Middle East and North Africa

Sarwat Mahmud, Hiam Chemaitelly, Zaina Al Kanaani, Silva P. Kouyoumjian, Laith J. Abu‐Raddad – 28 February 2020 – We investigated hepatitis C virus (HCV) epidemiology in populations with liver‐related diseases (LRDs) in the Middle East and North Africa. The data source was standardized databases of HCV measures populated through systematic reviews. Random‐effects meta‐analyses and meta‐regressions were performed, and genotype diversity was assessed. Analyses were based on 252 HCV antibody prevalence measures, eight viremic rate measures, and 30 genotype measures on 132,358 subjects.

Bile Biochemistry Following Liver Reperfusion in the Recipient and Its Association With Cholangiopathy

Rohit Gaurav, Niroshan Atulugama, Lisa Swift, Andrew J. Butler, Sara Upponi, Rebecca Brais, Michael Allison, Christopher J. E. Watson – 28 February 2020 – Cholangiocytes secrete bicarbonate and absorb glucose, producing bile with alkaline pH and low glucose content. These functions of cholangiocytes have been suggested as a marker of bile duct viability during normothermic ex situ liver perfusion, and they are now monitored routinely after reperfusion in our center.

LiverLearning®: 2020 Webinar: Implementation Science of Patient Reported Outcomes (PROs)

There is increasing interest to integrate patient reported outcomes (PROs) within routine practice to enhance and inform clinical care. It has shown to improve patient- provider communication, provider awareness of symptoms, tailored symptom management and enhanced quality of life. There is minimal knowledge on how to integrate PROMs within routine busy hepatology practice, and how to respond to the symptom scores assessed.
