Regulation of mechanosensitive biliary epithelial transport by the epithelial Na+ channel

Qin Li, Charles Kresge, Abhijit Bugde, Michelle Lamphere, Jason Y. Park, Andrew P. Feranchak – 17 October 2015 – Intrahepatic biliary epithelial cells (BECs), also known as cholangiocytes, modulate the volume and composition of bile through the regulation of secretion and absorption. While mechanosensitive Cl– efflux has been identified as an important secretory pathway, the counterabsorptive pathways have not been identified.

Treatment of hepatitis C virus–associated mixed cryoglobulinemia with direct‐acting antiviral agents

Meghan E. Sise, Allyson K. Bloom, Jessica Wisocky, Ming V. Lin, Jenna L. Gustafson, Andrew L. Lundquist, David Steele, Michael Thiim, Winfred W. Williams, Nikroo Hashemi, Arthur Y. Kim, Ravi Thadhani, Raymond T. Chung – 17 October 2015 – Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is the most common cause of mixed cryoglobulinemia syndrome (MCS). The efficacy and safety of all‐oral direct‐acting antiviral (DAA) therapy in HCV‐associated MCS (HCV‐MCS) is largely unknown.

A functional classification of ABCB4 variations causing progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis type 3

Jean‐Louis Delaunay, Anne‐Marie Durand‐Schneider, Claire Dossier, Thomas Falguières, Julien Gautherot, Anne Davit‐Spraul, Tounsia Aït‐Slimane, Chantal Housset, Emmanuel Jacquemin, Michèle Maurice – 17 October 2015 – Progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis type 3 is caused by biallelic variations of ABCB4, most often (≥70%) missense. In this study, we examined the effects of 12 missense variations identified in progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis type 3 patients.

Akt‐mediated foxo1 inhibition is required for liver regeneration

Montse Pauta, Noemi Rotllan, Ana Fernández‐Hernando, Cedric Langhi, Jordi Ribera, Mingjian Lu, Loreto Boix, Jordi Bruix, Wladimiro Jimenez, Yajaira Suárez, David A. Ford, Angel Baldán, Morris J. Birnbaum, Manuel Morales‐Ruiz, Carlos Fernández‐Hernando – 16 October 2015 – Understanding the hepatic regenerative process has clinical interest as the effectiveness of many treatments for chronic liver diseases is conditioned by efficient liver regeneration.

Inhibition of hedgehog signaling ameliorates hepatic inflammation in mice with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease

Hyunjoo Kwon, Kyoungsub Song, Chang Han, Weina Chen, Ying Wang, Srikanta Dash, Kyu Lim, Tong Wu – 16 October 2015 – Hedgehog (Hh) signaling plays a critical role in liver development, regeneration, injury repair, and carcinogenesis. Activation of Hh signaling has been observed in patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver diseases (NAFLD); however, the pathobiological function and regulatory mechanism of hepatic Hh signaling in the pathogenesis of NAFLD remain to be further defined.

Peripheral insulin resistance predicts liver damage in nondiabetic subjects with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease

Chiara Rosso, Lavinia Mezzabotta, Melania Gaggini, Federico Salomone, Roberto Gambino, Andrea Marengo, Francesca Saba, Ester Vanni, Ramy Younes, Chiara Saponaro, Emma Buzzigoli, Gian Paolo Caviglia, Maria Lorena Abate, Antonina Smedile, Mario Rizzetto, Maurizio Cassader, Amalia Gastaldelli, Elisabetta Bugianesi – 16 October 2015 – Surrogate indexes of insulin resistance and insulin sensitivity are widely used in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), although they have never been validated in this population.
