Johannes Bargehr, Jorge F. Trejo‐Gutierrez, Tushar Patel, Barry Rosser, Jaime Aranda‐Michel, Maria L. Yataco, C. Burcin Taner – 8 December 2014 – Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia, and it is associated with increased cardiovascular morbidity and all‐cause mortality. Our aim was to determine the impact of preexisting AF on patients undergoing liver transplantation (LT). A retrospective case‐control study was performed. Records from patients who underwent LT between January 2005 and December 2008 at Mayo Clinic Florida were reviewed.
Jean C. Emond, Robert A. Fisher, Gregory Everson, Benjamin Samstein, James J. Pomposelli, Binsheng Zhao, Sarah Forney, Kim M. Olthoff, Talia B. Baker, Brenda W. Gillespie, Robert M. Merion – 8 December 2014 – Previous reports have drawn attention to persistently decreased platelet counts among liver donors. We hypothesized an etiologic association between altered platelet counts and postdonation splenomegaly and sought to explore this relationship.
Kyung‐Suk Suh, Suk‐Won Suh, Jeong‐Moo Lee, YoungRok Choi, Nam‐Joon Yi, Kwang‐Woong Lee – 8 December 2014 – Donor safety remains an important concern in living donor liver transplantation (LDLT). In the present study, we assessed recent advancements in the donor operation for LDLT through our experience with this procedure. A total of 886 donor hepatectomies performed between January 1999 and December 2012 were analyzed.
Fiona O'Mahony, Kevin Wroblewski, Sheila M. O'Byrne, Hongfeng Jiang, Kara Clerkin, Jihane Benhammou, William S. Blaner, Simon W. Beaven – 6 December 2014 – Liver X receptors (LXRs) are determinants of hepatic stellate cell (HSC) activation and liver fibrosis. Freshly isolated HSCs from Lxrαβ−/− mice have increased lipid droplet (LD) size, but the functional consequences of this are unknown. Our aim was to determine whether LXRs link cholesterol to retinoid storage in HSCs and how this impacts activation.
