Timing of hepatitis C antiviral therapy in patients with advanced liver disease: A decision analysis model

Sammy Saab, Douglas R. Hunt, Michael A. Stone, Amy McClune, Myron J. Tong – 23 March 2010 – Antiviral therapy for the treatment of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is used before and after liver transplantation. The objective of this study was to determine the most cost‐effective timing for pegylated interferon/ribavirin therapy in patients with advanced liver disease infected with genotype 1 HCV.

T‐Tube or no T‐tube in the reconstruction of the biliary tract during orthotopic liver transplantation: Systematic review and meta‐analysis

Carina Riediger, Michael W. Müller, Christoph W. Michalski, Norbert Hüser, Tibor Schuster, Jörg Kleeff, Helmut Friess – 23 March 2010 – The routine use of a T‐tube in reconstruction of the biliary tree during orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) is controversial. A systematic review of the literature on the use of a T‐tube in reconstruction of the biliary tree was performed. Retrospective studies were only reviewed, whereas prospective randomized studies were included in the meta‐analysis. An analysis of 196 studies revealed that 91 studies investigated the use of a T‐tube in OLT.

Solitary pulmonary nodule in the liver transplant candidate: Importance of diagnosis and treatment

Allan M. Concejero, Chee‐Chien Yong, Chao‐Long Chen, Hung‐I Lu, Chih‐Chi Wang, Shih‐Ho Wang, Yueh‐Wei Liu, Chin‐Hsiang Yang, Yu‐Fan Cheng, Bruno Jawan – 8 March 2010 – Our objectives were to define the incidence and etiology of solitary pulmonary nodules (SPNs) in patients undergoing living donor liver transplantation (LDLT), describe a diagnostic approach to the management of SPNs in LDLT, and define the impact of SPNs on the overall survival of adult LDLT recipients.

Procalcitonin as a prognostic marker for infectious complications in liver transplant recipients in an intensive care unit

Maartje A. J. van den Broek, Steven W. M. Olde Damink, Bjorn Winkens, Christoph E. Broelsch, Massimo Malagó, Andreas Paul, Fuat H. Saner – 5 March 2010 – Clinically significant infections (CSIs) are life‐threatening but difficult to diagnose after liver transplantation (LTx). This study investigates the value of procalcitonin (PCT) in addition to c‐reactive protein (CRP) and the leukocyte count (LC) as a prognostic marker for CSIs in LTx recipients. The clinical course of 135 LTx recipients was prospectively studied.
