Hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) drive fibrogenesis, producing matrix proteins, including procollagen I, which matures into collagen I following secretion. Disrupting intracellular procollagen processing and trafficking causes endoplasmic reticulum stress and stress‐induced HSC apoptosis and thus is an attractive antifibrotic strategy.
