We examined the feasibility of inpatient frailty measurements and associations with nonhome discharge, readmission, and all‐cause mortality among patients admitted for cirrhosis complications. We conducted a prospective study at 3 liver transplantation (LT) centers.

Hepatic Encephalopathy and Liver Transplantation: The Past, Present, and Future Toward Equitable Access

Chathur Acharya, Jasmohan S. Bajaj – 20 May 2021 – Cirrhosis is a debilitating chronic disease with high morbidity and mortality, with the only real cure being liver transplantation (LT). Currently, we allocate organs for transplantation based on the Model for End‐Stage Liver Disease–Sodium (MELD‐Na) score that does not account for hepatic encephalopathy (HE). HE affects patients, families, and the health care system because of high rates of recurrence and major readmission burden. Moreover, HE casts a long shadow even after LT.

Cannabinoid Use Among Liver Transplant Recipients

Kathleen Yan, Lisa Forman – 20 May 2021 – The effect of cannabinoids on liver transplant outcomes is an area of active research. We aimed to investigate marijuana (MJ) and cannabidiol (CBD) use among liver transplant recipients at the University of Colorado Hospital (UCH), specifically prevalence, habits, and predictors of use. Liver transplant recipients followed at UCH with valid email addresses were sent an informed consent postcard and survey invitation. This exploratory survey was conducted using REDCap. IBM SPSS Statistics software was used for statistical analysis.

Existing guidelines recommend early enteral nutrition after abdominal surgery and in the child who is critically ill but data on nutritional interventions after LT in children are sparse.
