Crobach, Bart Hoek – 30 September 2020 – Presentation of autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) can differ from nonacute to acute autoimmune hepatitis (A‐AIH) with jaundice and acute severe autoimmune hepatitis (AS‐AIH) with jaundice and coagulopathy. The aim of the study was to evaluate the short‐term prognosis of different presentations of AIH and the influence of liver function improvement on short‐term prognosis.

There are 2.4 billion drinkers (950 million heavy drinkers) and the lifetime prevalence of any alcohol use disorder (AUD) is 5.1%‐8.6%. In 2017, global prevalence of alcohol‐associated compensated and decompensated cirrhosis was 23.6 million and 2.5 million, respectively.

The prefix osteo‐ means bone; however, OPN is expressed in other tissues, including liver. The suffix ‐pontin means bridge and denotes the role of OPN as a link protein within the extracellular matrix. While OPN has well‐established physiological roles, multiple “omics” analyses suggest that it is also involved in chronic liver disease.
