Elizabeth L. Yanik, Srinath Chinnakotla, Sally K. Gustafson, Jon J. Snyder, Ajay K. Israni, Dorry L. Segev, Eric A. Engels – 19 January 2016 – For recipients of liver transplantations (LTs) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), HCC recurrence after transplantation remains a major concern. Sirolimus (SRL), an immunosuppressant with anticarcinogenic properties, may reduce HCC recurrence and improve survival. In our study, the US Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients was linked to pharmacy claims.

Kazutoyo Morita, Ken Shirabe, Akinobu Taketomi, Yuji Soejima, Tomoharu Yoshizumi, Hideaki Uchiyama, Toru Ikegami, Yo‐ichi Yamashita, Keishi Sugimachi, Norifumi Harimoto, Shinji Itoh, Tetsuo Ikeda, Yoshihiko Maehara – 19 January 2016 – There are few reports about recurrence‐related microRNAs (miRNAs) after liver transplantation (LT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The purpose of this study was to identify novel recurrence‐related miRNAs after living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) for HCC.
Karla C. L. Lee, Vanessa Stadlbauer, Rajiv Jalan – 19 January 2016 – An alternative to liver transplantation for patients with liver failure remains an unmet need. In acute liver failure, the ideal extracorporeal liver support device (ELSD) would replace the functions of the failing liver in order to permit spontaneous recovery, given the incredible regenerative potential of the liver, negating the need for transplantation.
Lemin Ai, Xiao Liang, Zhifei Wang, Jie Shen, Feiyan Yu, Limei Xie, Yongming Pan, Hui Lin – 19 January 2016 – To test the alternative possible locations for the placement of a liver graft and the relevant surgical technique issues, we developed a porcine model of auxiliary partial heterotopic liver transplantation (APHLT) and evaluated the difference between 2 styles of liver transplantation, either subhepatic fossa or splenic fossa APHLT, by comparing survival and biochemical indexes. Thirty‐eight miniature pigs were randomly divided into 2 groups.
Davide Ghinolfi, Paolo Simone, Quirino Lai, Daniele Pezzati, Laura Coletti, Emanuele Balzano, Giuseppe Arenga, Paola Carrai, Gennaro Grande, Luca Pollina, Daniela Campani, Gianni Biancofiore, Franco Filipponi – 19 January 2016 – The use of octogenarian donors to increase the donor pool in liver transplantation (LT) is controversial because advanced donor age is associated with a higher risk of ischemic‐type biliary lesions (ITBL).
