Protein Phosphatase 1 Regulatory Subunit 3B Genotype at rs4240624 Has a Major Effect on Gallbladder Bile Composition

Ville Männistö, Dorota Kaminska, Pirjo Käkelä, Mikko Neuvonen, Mikko Niemi, Marcus Alvarez, Päivi Pajukanta, Stefano Romeo, Max Nieuwdorp, Albert.K. Groen, Jussi Pihlajamäki – 25 November 2020 – The protein phosphatase 1 regulatory subunit 3B (PPP1R3B) gene is a target of farnesoid X receptor (FXR), which is a major regulator of bile acid metabolism. Both PPP1R3B and FXR have been suggested to take part in glycogen metabolism, which may explain the association of PPP1R3B gene variants with altered hepatic computed tomography attenuation.

Hypothermic Oxygenated Perfusion Improves Extended Criteria Donor Liver Graft Function and Reduces Duration of Hospitalization Without Extra Cost: The PERPHO Study

Michel Rayar, Jean‐Marie Beaurepaire, Emma Bajeux, Stéphanie Hamonic, Thomas Renard, Clara Locher, Véronique Desfourneaux, Aude Merdrignac, Damien Bergeat, Mohamed Lakehal, Laurent Sulpice, Pauline Houssel‐Debry, Caroline Jezequel, Christophe Camus, Edouard Bardou‐Jacquet, Bernard Meunier – 25 November 2020 – Few studies have evaluated the efficacy or the cost of hypothermic oxygenated perfusion (HOPE) in the conservation of extended criteria donor (ECD) grafts from donation after brain death (DBD) donors during liver transplantation (LT).

Introducing EL‐FIT (Exercise and Liver FITness): A Smartphone App to Prehabilitate and Monitor Liver Transplant Candidates

Andrés Duarte‐Rojo, Pamela M. Bloomer, Renee J. Rogers, Mohamed A. Hassan, Michael A. Dunn, Amit D. Tevar, Samantha L. Vivis, Ramon Bataller, Christopher B. Hughes, Arny A. Ferrando, John M. Jakicic, W. Ray Kim – 24 November 2020 – Preserved physical function is key for successful liver transplantation (LT); however, prehabilitation strategies are underdeveloped. We created a smartphone application (app), EL‐FIT (Exercise and Liver FITness), to facilitate exercise training in end‐stage liver disease (ESLD).

CMTM6 Stabilizes PD‐L1 Expression and Is a New Prognostic Impact Factor in Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Kyohei Yugawa, Shinji Itoh, Tomoharu Yoshizumi, Norifumi Iseda, Takahiro Tomiyama, Akinari Morinaga, Takeo Toshima, Noboru Harada, Kenichi Kohashi, Yoshinao Oda, Masaki Mori – 24 November 2020 – CKLF‐like MARVEL transmembrane domain containing 6 (CMTM6) was identified as a regulator of programmed death ligand 1 (PD‐L1), which induces antitumor immunity in several cancers. This study aimed to clarify the relationship between CMTM6 and PD‐L1 expression and clinical outcomes in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Frailty Is a Risk Factor for Postoperative Mortality in Patients With Cirrhosis Undergoing Diverse Major Surgeries

Nadim Mahmud, David E. Kaplan, Tamar H. Taddei, David S. Goldberg – 23 November 2020 – With a rising burden of cirrhosis surgeries, understanding risk factors for postoperative mortality is more salient than ever. The role of baseline frailty has not been assessed in this context. We evaluated the association between patient frailty and postoperative risk among diverse patients with cirrhosis and determined if frailty improves prognostication of cirrhosis surgical risk scores. This was a retrospective cohort study of U.S.
