Tolerance after liver transplantation: Where are we?

Sandy Feng, John Bucuvalas – 17 August 2017 – Impeccable management of immunosuppression is required to ensure the best longterm outcomes for liver transplant recipients. This is particularly challenging for children who arguably need 8 decades of graft and patient survival. Too little risks chronic, often subclinical allo‐immune injury while too much risks insidious and cumulative toxicities. Historically, immunosuppression minimization or withdrawal has been a strategy to optimize the longevity of liver transplant recipients.

Attitudes and barriers to the use of donation after cardiac death livers: Comparison of a United States transplant center survey to the united network for organ sharing data

Linda Sher, Cristiano Quintini, Sameh Adel Fayek, Peter Abt, Mary Lo, Pui Yuk, Lingyun Ji, Susan Groshen, Jamie Case, Christopher Lee Marsh – 17 August 2017 – Transplantation of liver grafts from donation after cardiac death (DCD) is limited. To identify barriers of DCD liver utilization, all active US liver transplant centers (n = 138) were surveyed, and the responses were compared with the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) data.

Projected increase in obesity and non‐alcoholic‐steatohepatitis–related liver transplantation waitlist additions in the United States

Neehar D. Parikh, Wesley J. Marrero, Jingyuan Wang, Justin Steuer, Elliot B. Tapper, Monica Konerman, Amit G. Singal, David W. Hutton, Eunshin Byon, Mariel S. Lavieri – 17 August 2017 – Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) cirrhosis is the fastest growing indication for liver transplantation (LT) in the United States. We aimed to determine the temporal trend behind the rise in obesity and NASH‐related additions to the LT waitlist in the United States and make projections for future NASH burden on the LT waitlist.
