The Integrated “Multiomics” Landscape at Peak Injury and Resolution From Alcohol‐Associated Liver Disease

Sukanta Das, Xiaodong Ge, Hui Han, Romain Desert, Zhuolun Song, Dipti Athavale, Wei Chen, Harriet Gaskell, Daniel Lantvit, Grace Guzman, Natalia Nieto – 27 August 2021 – Alcohol‐associated liver disease (ALD) is a significant clinical problem for which the most effective therapy is alcohol abstinence. The two aims of this study were, first, to identify the liver transcriptome, fecal microbiome, and portal serum metabolome at peak injury and during early and late resolution from ALD; and second, to integrate their interactions and understand better the pathogenesis of ALD.

Inverse Association of Telomere Length With Liver Disease and Mortality in the US Population

Puru Rattan, Daniel D. Penrice, Joseph C. Ahn, Alejandro Ferrer, Mrinal Patnaik, Vijay H. Shah, Patrick S. Kamath, Abhishek A. Mangaonkar, Douglas A. Simonetto – 27 August 2021 – Physiologic aging leads to attrition of telomeres and replicative senescence. An acceleration of this process has been hypothesized in the progression of chronic liver disease. We sought to examine the association of telomere length (TL) with liver disease and its impact on mortality risk.

Protective Effects of Statin Therapy in Cirrhosis Are Limited by a Common SLCO1B1 Transporter Variant

Melissa Merkel, Christina Schneider, Robin Greinert, Alexander Zipprich, Cristina Ripoll, Frank Lammert, Matthias C. Reichert – 27 August 2021 – Complications of cirrhosis and portal hypertension (PH) can be reduced by statin therapy. The common loss‐of‐function variant p.V174A in the solute carrier organic anion transporter gene 1B1 (SLCO1B1) gene encoding the organic anion transporting polypeptide 1B1 results in decreased hepatic uptake of statins.

Transcriptomic Cross‐Species Analysis of Chronic Liver Disease Reveals Consistent Regulation Between Humans and Mice

Christian H. Holland, Ricardo O. Ramirez Flores, Maiju Myllys, Reham Hassan, Karolina Edlund, Ute Hofmann, Rosemarie Marchan, Cristina Cadenas, Jörg Reinders, Stefan Hoehme, Abdel‐latif Seddek, Steven Dooley, Verena Keitel, Patricio Godoy, Brigitte Begher‐Tibbe, Christian Trautwein, Christian Rupp, Sebastian Mueller, Thomas Longerich, Jan G. Hengstler, Julio Saez‐Rodriguez, Ahmed Ghallab – 27 August 2021 – Mouse models are frequently used to study chronic liver diseases (CLDs).
